Plastic Surgery Statistics And The Top Procedures To Consider

Blog

What are the most popular plastic surgery procedures? There were more than 2.3 million of these surgeries in 2020, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. If you're ready to join the millions of patients who've chosen surgery, take a look at what you need to know about the top procedures.

Which Procedures Are In the Top Five?

The top five list varies by year. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2020 the number one procedure was nose reshaping (also known as rhinoplasty). The other top five procedures include eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), facelift, liposuction, and breast augmentation. These procedures were also all ranked in the same order as the top surgeries of the previous year.

Who Gets Plastic Surgery?

Are all surgical procedures equally as popular with all age groups? The 2020 stats from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons' report show that 40 to 54-year-olds are the most likely to have this type of surgery. In one year (2020), Americans in this age group had more than six million cosmetic procedure services. This includes 684,000 surgeries and 5.4 million minimally-invasive procedures.

The second age group with the most cosmetic procedures are 55 to 69-year-olds—with 3.9 million total procedures in 2020. Even though plastic and cosmetic procedures were most popular with people in these age groups, other adults also had millions of these types of surgeries in the 2020 calendar year. 20 to 29-year-olds had 738,000, 30 to 39-year-olds had 2.1 million, and people 70-plus had 246,000 total procedures.

Are There Differences Between the Sexes?

Which procedures are the most popular with women—and which ones are the top picks for men? Rhinoplasty isn't just the number one surgical selection in 2020. This procedure was also the most popular option for women. Like the other total top surgeries, eyelid surgery, facelifts, liposuction, and breast augmentation were in the female top five.

Men also choose nose reshaping as their top surgical procedure. The statistics also show that eyelid surgery, facelifts, liposuction, and breast augmentation were in the top five for male patients.

Where Are These Surgeries Done?

Even though these procedures are surgeries, they aren't always done in hospitals. Most of these surgeries are done on an outpatient basis. Regardless of which procedure you opt in for, you won't have to stay overnight in the hospital. The majority of 2020 surgeries were done in free-standing ambulatory surgical facilities. Hospitals were the least likely surgical setting, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons statistics.

Getting a Chemical Peel

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been a daddy’s girl. Now that my father is getting older, I’m starting to worry more about his health. Because he worked outdoors for decades, I was happy when my dad recently started to visit a dermatologist. This medical professional discovered that my dear dad had several skin cancers on his face. This individual removed my father’s skin cancers by burning and freezing them. He also recommended that my father undergo a chemical peel in order to prevent some of the cancers on his face from returning. On this blog, you will discover the health benefits of getting a chemical peel on your face. Enjoy!
