3 Tips For Preparing The Skin On Your Legs For Your First Waxing Session

Blog

If you have decided to have your legs waxed for the first time before a summer outing, you may wonder if there is anything you can do to prepare your skin. If so, use the following three tips in the days leading up to your appointment.

Let Your Leg Hair Grow

If you normally shave your legs, stop shaving them about a week before your appointment. Letting the hair grow out during this time frame allows it be long enough for the wax to grab onto. If the hair is too short, the wax may only tug on the hairs without being able to remove them.

However, you also do not want your hair too long. If the hair's length exceeds the layer of wax placed on the legs, the wax may push the hairs down instead of adhering to them. If this happens, it may not be able to fully remove the hair, leaving you with uneven results.

Use a Gentle Exfoliant the Day Before

Another thing you can do the day before your waxing appointment is to use a gentle exfoliant on your legs. Exfoliating your skin removes any dead cells and unseen dirt that could prevent the wax from fully sticking to your hairs.

However, do not use the exfoliant on your legs the day of your appointment. Even if you use a gentle scrub, it could irritate your legs and creates bumps on the skin. Not only could these bumps create an uneven waxing, but they could make the removal of the wax and hair uncomfortable.

Apply Lotion on the Days Leading up to the Session

Every day for about a week leading up to your session, apply a nourishing lotion to your legs. The lotion will keep the skin supple and the hairs softer to aid the wax in sliding off the skin while removing the hair.

However, do not apply the lotion before your appointment. If the lotion has not had time to fully absorb into your skin, it could interfere with the wax's ability to stick to both your skin and hairs.

Using the above tips to prepare your legs for a waxing can help make the process go as smoothly as your legs will be after the procedure. If you have any further questions, contact the spa or removal business to see if they have any further advice on how to prepare for your first waxing. They can also likely help you learn about other methods of hair removal for women, such as laser hair removal, if for some reason you decide not to wax.

Getting a Chemical Peel

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been a daddy’s girl. Now that my father is getting older, I’m starting to worry more about his health. Because he worked outdoors for decades, I was happy when my dad recently started to visit a dermatologist. This medical professional discovered that my dear dad had several skin cancers on his face. This individual removed my father’s skin cancers by burning and freezing them. He also recommended that my father undergo a chemical peel in order to prevent some of the cancers on his face from returning. On this blog, you will discover the health benefits of getting a chemical peel on your face. Enjoy!
