How Should You Prepare For Breast Reduction Surgery?

Blog

If you are tired of the constant back pain that comes with having large breasts, you probably cannot wait to finally have breast reduction surgery performed. You'll experience so much relief once the procedure is over and your incisions have healed. But first, you have to actually prepare for the procedure! Here are a few ways to prepare for your breast reduction.

1. Tell your doctor about any and all medications and supplements you are taking.

You may need to stop taking certain medications, such as blood thinners or birth control pills, prior to your surgery. If your doctor does not know you are taking certain medications, they cannot give you proper dosage instructions in this case. Make sure you also tell them about supplements and vitamins — even some seemingly innocuous supplements, like multi-vitamins and herbs, can slow healing or lead to an increased risk of bleeding during surgery.

2. Stop smoking.

Smoking slows down your body's healing process and also increases your chances of an infection post-surgery. Your doctor will probably tell you to quit smoking as soon in advance of your surgery as possible. If you can give it up a month before, that's excellent. If you can only manage a week, that's okay, too. Try chewing nicotine gum or using patches to curb your cravings while you await surgery, and steer clear of smoking for a week or two after the procedure, too.

3. Buy some smaller shirts.

Immediately after surgery, you will have some swelling, but your chest will immediately be smaller than it was before. As such, you may feel strange in your old shirts, which will now look loose and baggy in the chest. You won't want to do any serious shopping until you are healed, but do buy a couple of shirts in a smaller size so you have something more suitable to wear.

4. Set your home up for recovery.

Most people are surprised how good they feel after breast reduction surgery. The pain is generally manageable, and you can go back to work after a few days as long as your job is not physically demanding. However, that first day after surgery, you should not be doing much cooking, cleaning, or other housework. Make sure you set your home up with a comfortable place to lie down, pre-made foods and drinks, and such. Consider having a friend come stay with you and care for you.

Getting a Chemical Peel

Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been a daddy’s girl. Now that my father is getting older, I’m starting to worry more about his health. Because he worked outdoors for decades, I was happy when my dad recently started to visit a dermatologist. This medical professional discovered that my dear dad had several skin cancers on his face. This individual removed my father’s skin cancers by burning and freezing them. He also recommended that my father undergo a chemical peel in order to prevent some of the cancers on his face from returning. On this blog, you will discover the health benefits of getting a chemical peel on your face. Enjoy!
